🩷:WHY IT'S AWESOME? Garnet is truly remarkable! It exists in almost every color of the rainbow, except blue. Experts anticipate exciting new discoveries in garnet varieties. Over the past fifty years, new blends have emerged in East Africa, with the potential for more to be found. Identifying garnets can be challenging due to their wide range of overlapping colors, making color alone insufficient. According to legend, garnet holds a special significance in love. In Greek mythology, Hades gave Persophone a pomegranate seed (symbolizing red garnet) to ensure her safe return and signify the healing of lovers' wounds.
🩷:WHAT IS RED GARNET? Red garnet is created when aluminum-rich sedimentary rock undergoes intense heat and pressure in volcanic environments. It belongs to a diverse group of stones, including Almandine, Pyrope, Spessartite, Grossular, Andradite, and Uvarovite. Almandine Garnet is the most commonly found variety and comes in different colors, but the dark red shade is what we typically think of. Andradites are especially rare and have more sparkle than diamonds due to their high dispersion. Uvarovites are the rarest in the garnet family, with a beautiful dark green color resembling emeralds.
🩷:WHERE IT'S FOUND? Garnets are found in Europe, USA (Arizona and New Mexico), South Africa, and Australia. The discovery of Bohemian garnet deposits in central Europe around 1500 led to a jewelry explosion for nearly 300 years. Noteworthy specimens include almandine garnets from Gore Mountain, New York, reaching a diameter of 23.6 inches (60 cm), and rare spessartites in Brazil, weighing several pounds with beautiful transparency and rich color. Typical garnets range from half an inch to an inch in diameter.
