WHY IT'S AWESOME? One of the most awesome things about blue calcite is the way it plays with light. If you put a stick of blue calcite into the water, it will look like it bends the light so that half will go through it and half will reflect.
WHAT IS BLUE CALCITE? All types of calcites get their name from the Greek and Latin words khalx and calcis, meaning lime. Although calcites are widely available all over the world, with the most common calcium carbonates found in the earth crust, seashells, chalk and remains, this blue calcite is special, as it is only found in a few parts of the world. The blue gets its color from manganese & carbon and is is found in large masses. Although Blue Calcite can be clearish blue, whitish blue, pale gray/blue and even deeper blues. It is usually opaque but can also be clear.
Note: be careful with acids/vinegars around blue calcite, as they will cause the stone to dissolve.
WHERE IT'S FOUND? Blue calcite is a rare mineral that comes from a few places in the world. The majority of the Blue calcite reservoir comes from Mexico and the Caribbean. The deepest blue type comes from the South African region.
